NOTED COMMUNITY LEADER TO ASSUME DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT POSITION AT MEMPHIS JEWISH HIGH SCHOOL

MEMPHIS, TN. (8/9/2006) – Adrian Weissman, head of school, announced today that Ms. Sandy Lewis has assumed the position of Director of Development for Memphis Jewish High School.  According to Weissman, “If we could have waived a magic wand and had our choice of people to choose for this position, Sandy Lewis would have been the one we would have wanted.”

A well-known and respected community leader, professional and volunteer, Lewis has left her imprint on many local and national organizations.  Her outstanding work with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was recognized in 2006 when the hospital presented her with their Marguerite Piazza-St. Jude Humanitarian Award.  Lewis also has received recognition from many other organizations, including the National Conference of Community & Justice.  She has served on various boards in the Memphis community, recently as chairperson of the Memphis Cancer Foundation Board.

Lewis said, “I am delighted to be a part of the new Memphis Jewish High School and look forward to working with such an outstanding group of educators.  Because of the school, many Jewish young people will have the opportunity for an excellent secular education, and as importantly, a higher Jewish education.  It is an exciting time for our Jewish community!”

Memphis Jewish High School will be undertaking innovative and creative ways of seeking financial support for secondary Jewish education in Memphis, Tennessee.  According to Andy Groveman, president of the school, “Memphis should be very proud of the fact that our community supports both formal Jewish and informal Jewish education.  We believe Memphis Jewish High School will offer our community an educational experience that is unequaled in this region.  Sandy and we look forward to talking to potential donors who wish to help fund this most important endeavor.”
