MJHS Announces Hanna Jackubowitz Hudson to Join Staff as the NETA Hebrew Language Teacher MJHS First School in this region of the country to adopt NETA
Memphis, TN (7/21/06) -- Adrian Weissman, Memphis Jewish High School's head of school, is thrilled to welcome Hanna Jackubowitz Hudson as the school's Hebrew language master teacher. According to Weissman, MJHS and Hudson will offer the most comprehensive Hebrew language program in the United States with the adoption of the NETA program. Hudson who is a native-born Israeli and teaches Hebrew courses at the University of Memphis was accepted into the NETA program along with the Memphis Jewish High School.
NETA seeks to provide a comprehensive linguistic and educational framework that enables Jewish secondary school students to advance to high levels of Hebrew proficiency. Grounded in principles of second-language learning, this framework includes an intellectually rich and sequential curriculum, preparation of a cadre of master teachers, ongoing professional development for educators, consultation to schools, and evaluation of educational processes and outcomes. In so doing, we fulfill our commitment to cultivating a community of Jews who are poised to be active participants in the continual renewal of Hebrew culture and who feel a profound attachment to Am Yisrael (the Jewish people) and Medinat Yisrael (the State of Israel).
As president of the Memphis Jewish High School, Andy Groveman says, “We are so thrilled and proud to have been accepted to NETA and its network of schools which have incorporated this Hebrew language program. To be among schools like the Maimonides School of Boston, SAR in New York, Charles E. Smith School in Maryland, Shalhevet in Los Angeles, Yeshiva of Flatbush, and schools as far away as Sydney and Melbourne, Australia is about as good as it gets! For those in our community who are not familiar with NETA, it is an innovative Hebrew language curriculum designed for students in grades 7-12. Created by Hebrew language curriculum specialists from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, administered by Hebrew College and supported by The AVI CHAI Foundation, NETA is reaching students in over 50 Jewish day schools worldwide.
