MEMPHIS, TN (3/30/06) -- Andy Groveman, president of Memphis Jewish High School, along with its founders announce the addition of two top Memphis educators to the Memphis Jewish High School team.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Eric Berman, a 14-year master teacher with Memphis University School (MUS) in Memphis, as the dean of general studies and master teacher at Memphis Jewish High School.   In addition, we are announcing the hiring of Ms. Margaret Ann Indingaro as master teacher and head of our school’s mathematics department.  Both of these individuals represent our unswerving commitment to actualizing our school’s mission which is to offer the finest general studies and Jewish education in the region,” said Groveman

Eric Berman believes “enthusiasm is my strong suit and teaching young people is a creative outlet which adds direction and zest to my own life-long learning adventure.  I welcome challenges and embrace technology.  I foster student participation in class and measure attainment of pedagogical goals within class activities, substantial writing exercise, and interactive testing of my own design.”

Berman received his B.A. from Princeton University and his Masters in History and Foreign Languages, and is ABD in History from the University of Memphis.  He was awarded the University of Chicago’s Outstanding Teacher Award in 1995.  Fluent in Spanish and French, and conversant in German and Portuguese, he also received the MUS Award for Teaching Excellence in 1994.  He is a member of the National History Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta, and Phi Kappa Phi.  Other educational accomplishments include the design and implementation of an online diagnostic test for AP students in U.S. History, as well as the design of websites and delivery of training in digital image handling.  He served as a yearbook advisor at MUS for four years and as a sponsor for Government Club at Nashville’s Model UN and YMCA Youth Legislature.

“The founders of Memphis Jewish High School are elated to have an individual leading the school’s general studies program whose enthusiasm, competencies, and unbridled love for students and the pursuit of excellence are exactly what Memphis Jewish High School was seeking,” said Groveman.

Groveman continued, “We are equally thrilled to announce Margaret Ann Indingaro as our master teacher and head of MJHS’s Math Department.  We are most fortunate to have her join our general studies team.  Ann’s illustrious career in teaching not only students, but also teachers, in all levels of math is most impressive.  Her career speaks for itself in terms of her depth of knowledge and ability to connect with students and teachers alike.”

Indingaro currently oversees and heads the mathematics department for the Shelby County School system.  At MJHS, she will be teaching all levels of math, as well as developing the mathematics curriculum for all grades.  Indingaro received her B.A. from Radcliff College in Cambridge, Massachusetts and has been an adjunct mathematics instructor at the University of Memphis, Shelby State Community College and LeMoyne-Owen College.  In addition, she taught at Kirby High School for eight years and has been with the Shelby County School system for the last 13 years.  She has been appointed to and is an integral part of many important statewide mathematics initiatives and was a member of the Tennessee State Secondary Mathematics Curriculum Committee that produced the Tennessee State Mathematics Framework for 9th – 12th grades, which was adopted in 1988.  In addition, she served on the Tennessee State Textbook Adoption Committee and in 2003, served on the Tennessee High School Curriculum Committee.  In 2004, she was a member of the Capital Program Committee, Reviewer, National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics and is currently serving a three-year term (2003 – 2006) as Southeast Region 2 Representative for the Affiliate Services Committee of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  Since 2000 Indingaro has been president of the Memphis Area Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

“Ann Indingaro’s professionalism, passion and dedication to the pursuit of excellence and to instilling in each and every student a genuine understanding and love for math reflect perfectly our school’s vision and mission,” Groveman added.
